Prospects of contentment- 18 Feb 2022

 Dear diary,

Today I played my part - as usual, in building the nation!

I woke up in spite of all ill feeling to put a brick on the house I’ve started building since this year.

The children look so happy every time we meet. Minds fresh, with renewed energy for learning every day.

I can already tell that something is happening. I know it, they know it. My projection is that by the end of this year, our interactions and engagement will have affected us both - I them, with English, and they I, with Lusoga/Lukono.

This has been evident in the past two weeks that I have been making home visits. No local language? Fine, I managed to communicate with their parents with excellence of a stolen ballot and they were present every step of the way. Rephrasing the pronunciations of words and questions (in the local language) I jotted in my notebook with the help of a colleague - as a guiding questionnaire and expected list of responses.

Just this action in itself have given me and the parents an insurmountable hope for the future. And I tell you, the future is looking good. The parents and I can bet on this.

I've learnt quite a number of things and surely, it has changed how I interact and teach these geniuses in the classroom. Having a clear perspective of where they come from and what they must do after leaving school (the impending chores, and play of course - stealing valuable time that could have otherwise been used for revision). COVID 19 having put an halt to learning in this part of the world for the  longest period ever recorded in the history of our great country - the remedy by teachers such as my self is differentiation and scaffolding in accordance to an individual learner's ability to absorb the content (vocabularies and sentence structures) - which has been further simplified by these recent visits. I spend more than the required time catching up certain learners.

Looking at my future self, I am convinced that what is being built here, will see us (the learners and I) to posterity of contentment and competence as functional members of this great democratic country regardless of its shortcomings.

The candidates are also very excited to share their learning space and time with me, hopefully - come next year when the results are out, we'd have a lot to thank the Lord for.

Can history be bended, even just a little?

I'm very optimistic. Something is bound to happen in this school that's never been before. For the first time, i am hoping that this school will get not only their first 1st grade, but their first 1st grades. It has never been a crime to dream more than one can possibly fathom!

  2. Just like Walt Disney said, "if you can dream it , you can do it" and with such positive energy I 100% believe that you will achieve all that you have set to do and already see you making such great impacts. Keep up the good work co fellow.

  3. This is touching, for any one who understands the conditions of our learners in rural areas will indeed say hope is what each of these children dream each time they lay down their heads to rest eagerly waiting for morning to come so as to go back to school to continue with building of their future. Great piece brother
